Andrew Crofts Gives Newport Boss Mike Flynn A Boost

Newport County boss Michael Flynn hopes to have Welsh international Andrew Crofts back in his starting line-up for the visit of Notts County on Tuesday night.

Crofts was forced to sit out the 1-1 draw at Exeter last weekend because of a bizarre toe injury that has restricted him to two appearances to date since his summer transfer.

“Andrew has a big infection in his toe. It’s basically a blister that got infected, he’s had antibiotics and seen the doctor, but it hasn’t settled down,” said Flynn.

“It’s a real sore one and it’s been a case so far of managing him, restricting his games, including most of pre-season. I bet he’ll be thankful when it finally disappears.

“Had he played at Exeter he might not have been able to play again on Tuesday, but should be fine now.  The way I was looking at it, I think he’s more suited to what we might need against Notts County and, thankfully, we came away with a point at the weekend.”

While Crofts is due to come back into the side, veteran full back David Pipe looks like missing out and there is still no sign of Robbie Wilmotts returning from injury.

Centre-half Mark O’Brien is back in contention.
