Bluebirds Snap Up First Of Three Big Signings

Norwich City winger Yanic Wildschut has joined Cardiff City on loan until the end of this season.

The Canaries paid £4m for the 26-year-old Dutchman when they signed him from Wigan Athletic a year ago, but he has made only 29 appearances since then.

Bluebirds boss Neil Warnock has signed the former Heerenveen and Middlesbrough forward on loan with a view to a permanent transfer in the summer.

Wildschut is manager Neil Warnock’s first major signing following defender Ciaron Brown from Wealdstone and striker Ogo Obi, a former Watford player.

Brown and Obi will both play for Cardiff’s development team over the rest if this season.

Wildschut scored two goals for Norwich, firing the only goal in a 1-0 win at Sheffield United and netting against Bristol City in a 1-1 draw at Ashton Gate.

He is Warnock’s first major signing of the January transfer window, but the City manager is still keen to sign a midfield player and a striker.

Bolton Wanderers have rejected Cardiff’s initial offer for Gary Madine, while the Bluebirds are also keen on Bournemouth hitman Lewis Grabban.

Wildschut, who came through the Ajax youth academy, is an out-and-out winger who can operate on either flank. He scored 10 goals in all competitions for Wigan when they won the League One title.

Cardiff have made their move with Kadeem Harris still ruled out by ankle and groin problems.

Anthony Pilkington looks certain to be moving on during this transfer window and Warnock wants more competition for Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, Junior Hoilett and Liam Feeney.

Wildschut will go straight into Cardiff’s squad for Saturday’s Championship home match against Sunderland (12.30pm) as long as international clearance is granted in time.

Cardiff then play Mansfield Town away in their FA Cu replay next Tuesday with the winners taking on Manchester City at home in the fourth round.
