Christian Malcolm Set To Be New Head Coach Of UK Athletics, According To Reports.

Christian Malcolm is set to be confirmed as the new head coach of UK Athletics, according to reports

Wales’ former sprint ace has been head of performance at Athletics Australia since February 2019 but is poised for a return to Britain.

The 41-year-old has been selected ahead of fellow contenders Stephen Maguire and Peter Eriksson, according to the reports in the Daily Mail and The Times.

Malcolm won medals at World Championships, World Indoors and Commonwealth Games and was twice a finalist at the Olympics in Sydney 2000 and Beijing eight years later.

The Newport-born sprinter was IAAF world junior athlete of the year in 1998.

Malcolm has been a successful coach over the last few years overseeing the successful relay squads as well as working with with the UK Paralympic team and Disability Wales.

He won the UK Sports Awards HP Coach of the Year and BBC Wales Coach of the Year in 2017. He has worked as a speed coach for the England Cricket team, Welsh Rugby team and others.

Malcolm, one of whose processors at British Athletics head coach was Malcolm Arnold, a former Wales national coach,  is set to take over just months before the Olympics in Tokyo.
