Defender Ciaron Back At Former Club With Bluebirds

Bluebirds’ defender Ciaron Brown is heading back to his former club in North West London on Tuesday.

Brown, 20, was signed from Wealdstone midway through last season and part of the deal was that Cardiff City would play the Vanarama National League team in a friendly.

Coaches Andy Legg and Jarred Harvey take Cardiff’s development team to Grosvenor Vale, Wealdstone for a pre-season friendly today.

Brown, a decisive, composed defender, made the move from amateur club Bedfont Sports, who play in the Combined Counties Premier, in 2016 and settled quickly in semi-professional football.

He made 66 appearances before agreeing a two and a half year contract with Cardiff, committing to the Welsh club until 2020.

A number of Championship clubs were keen on Brown and he had a trial with Sheffield Wednesday and the Bluebirds.

Cardiff’s development team have earned five wins from five pre-season matches, winning 3-0 at Hereford in their last outing.

Manager Bobby Wilkinson’s Wealdstone play in National League South – the sixth tier of England’s football pyramid. They finished 11th last season.

Former AFC Totton striker Stefan Brown is among their new signings, while Wealdstone’s squad includes Guyanan international Sam Cox.

The London-born defensive midfield player has earned eight senior caps for Guyana.

Wilkinson’s team have played seven friendlies, recording three wins, three draws and suffering one defeat.

Wealdstone start their National League South fixtures at home against Weston-super-Mare on Saturday, August 4.

The Bluebirds have two pre-season matches left after this match, against French club Amiens at St George’s Park on Friday before Spanish team Real Betis are at Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday (5.15pm).
