Elfyn Evans has been cleared to make his comeback at the Wales Rally GB

Elfyn Evans Will Make Comeback On Wales Rally GB

Elfyn Evans will make his comeback on home soil in October’s Wales Rally GB.

The Dolgellau-born racer missed the events in Finland and Germany after injuring his back in a non-championship rally in Estonia last month.

Evans will also sit-out Rally Turkey on 12-15 September but specialists have given him the all-clear to drive his M-Sport Ford Fiesta WRC car in front of his home fans.

The 30-year-old said: “I’m really looking forward to getting back behind the wheel again,” said Evans.

“However, it’s important that I’m 100 per cent before coming back, so I won’t be in Turkey, but our plan is to get behind the wheel again at Wales Rally GB.

“I’m now fully focussed on my training and rehab and working with experts to ensure I’m at full strength when I step inside the car again.”

Evans suffered the injury after a heavy landing in Estonia and his absence has seen him drop from fourth to sixth in the World Championship standings.

M-Sport Team Principal, Richard Millener, said: “We now know when Elfyn will be able to return to competition, and that’s a big boost for the team heading into the final part of the season.
“He still has a little way to go with his recovery so we won’t see him in Turkey, but it’s great to know that he’ll be fit for Wales – his home event and the rally he won in 2017.

“He and Scott (Martin)  had a really strong start to the year and we’re all hoping they can continue that same performance on their return.

“We’ve not had the best of luck recently, but we’re focused on giving Elfyn and Teemu (Suninen) their best chance of fighting for fourth place in the championship – a battle which currently sees five drivers separated by just 10 points!”
