Exclusive: Llanelli Manager Confirms Leon Britton Will Miss Rest Of Season

Llanelli Town’s survival hopes have been dealt a major blow after it was confirmed marquee signing Leon Britton will miss the rest of the season following a foot injury sustained in their weekend match against Cefn Druids.

Britton limped off late in the Reds’ goalless draw following a strong challenge from Cefn Druids midfielder Fisnik Hajdari and later confirmed that he had suffered a broken foot.

Llanelli manager Andy Hill has now revealed the injury has cut short Britton’s spell in the Welsh Premier League and he faces the possibility of surgery.

“He’s broken away a piece of bone on the top of his foot and has got to have a scan to see if needs an operation for it heal properly. We’ve been told three months,” Hill told Dai-Sport.

Britton was considered as one of the biggest signings in the history of the league when it was announced last month that the former Swansea City star had joined Llanelli until the end of the season.

Britton helped steer Llanelli to a 2-1 win over relegation rivals Llandudno on his debut and following a break in the league schedule, he did not play again until last Saturday.

Llanelli’s final game of the season is scheduled against Cardiff Met on April 26.
