Gary Madine To Wipe Bluebirds Slate Clean And Join Sheffield United On Loan

Gary Madine is poised to complete his loan move from Cardiff City to Sheffield United.

The Bluebirds striker was at Bramall Lane today where he watched the Blades FA Cup third round tie with Barnet from the directors’ box.

Madine, who is set to make the cross-Sheffield switch having played for Wednesday, joined City from Bolton in a deal worth around £6m just 12 months ago.

But he has struggled to make an impact for Neil Warnock’s side failing to score in 19 appearances.

Madine’s only start this season was in the Carabao Cup defeat by Championship side Norwich in August.

The 28-year-old will join for the remainder of the season with Warnock hoping he can rediscover his goal scoring touch and fire his old club to promotion to the top-flight.

“Gary needs to go away and get some goals scored,” said Warnock, who reckons Madine struggled to recover from missing a penalty in a crunch Championship clash with Wolves last season.

”They create a lot of chances do Sheffield, and I’ve said to him: ‘go and get my old club up and get them promoted’.

”He’s felt such a heavy load on his head here, starting with missing a penalty but sometimes it’s good to wipe the slate clean.

“Financially it’s very good for us as well, everything is fully paid up and there are incentives for them going up as well.”

Madine made 113 appearances for the Owls scoring 28 goals and joins a United side that plays attacking football under boss Chris Wilder.
