Lee Trundle Fires Half Century Of Goals For Champions Llanelli

Lee Trundle is loving his remarkable Welsh League season.

The former Swansea City goals ace scored his ninth hat-trick of the season for Llanelli Town FC against Ammanford away – and is now intent on helping the Reds complete a trophy double.

Trundle, 40, has netted 50 goals in 29 appearances for promoted Llanelli, who won the Division Two title with an unbeaten record.

They won 23 and drew seven, scoring 108 goals and conceding 29.

Llanelli won their final league match 4-1 against Ammanford with Trundle (3) and Ross Jones the scorers. Trundle netted his third with a superbly executive overhead kick which caught the goalkeeper unawares.

They have dropped only 14 points throughout the season and this has been described as ‘one of the greatest seasons in the Reds` long history’.

Llanelli join the likes of Ton Pentre, Cardiff Institute, Barry Town (twice), Bridgend Town, Swansea Town Reserves and Lovells in going through a full season undefeated.

Llanelli Town: Morris, March, Lewis (Finselbach 68), R Thomas, Davies, Follows (Samuel 62), Trundle, R Jones (Loveridge 62). Subs: not used: Morgan, L Jones.

Now they turn to this Friday’s Nathaniel Cars League Cup final against Bridgend Street at The Old Road Ground, Briton Ferry (7pm).

Third Division Street still have one league fixture to play, against Third Division champions Llantwit Major at home on Wednesday, before they focus on the final.

Llantwit Major are already champions, having won 21 of their 29 games, with STM Sports runners-up. Both are well clear of third place.

Barry Town United won Welsh League Division One and have earned promotion to the top flight of domestic football for 2017-18.

Abergavenny Town manager Stephen ‘Butch’ Morgan is stepping down after over 20 years of a hugely successful reign, firstly when the club was known as Govilon and latterly Abergavenny.

A new manager will be appointed and the successful candidate will be experienced in managing at Welsh League level. He must also have the drive and commitment to carry the team forward in a demanding role.
