Liam Williams has been waiting 10 months to satisfy his desire to get back in the ring and British title challenger Andrew Robinson is the man who is about to feel the full force of his frustration.

The man they call “The Machine” hasn’t fought since December and he can’t wait to get back in the ring to defend his domestic middleweight title, while advancing his bid for world shot.

Williams is desperate for a global belt and he sees Saturday night’s bout in London as the next step towards that goal.

The Clydach Vale product, who hasn’t fought since his devastating demolition of American Atlantez Fox last December said: “For me, it’s about looking good but most of all it’s just about getting the win.

“If you can do some real damage in the meantime, happy days. I want to hurt people and that is because I just love winning and the feeling it brings.

“People are expecting me to put on a big performance and to knock him out. I’m expecting that myself, but if it doesn’t come I’m not going to be disappointed.”

Williams acknowledges his opponent from Redditch will provide a challenge to his British title, but he is not prepared to let him stand in the way of grander ambitions.

“Robinson represents a risk to me, but I couldn’t care less,” says Williams.

“I want to fight. I am mentally good, physically good, my weight is right and I could fight for a world title this week.”

If Williams is confident about this weekend’s fight – staged behind closed doors at BT Sport’s studios – he is equally bullish about the outcome of any future world title bout.

Liam Williams fights behind closed doors on Saturday.

Although he would be happy to take a shot at any of the middleweight belts, he has singled out the WBO prize currently held by American Demetrius Andrade.

The 28-year-old MTK Global fighter has made it clear the champion is firmly on his radar and he will do anything he can to ensure he hits the target.

“I am confident in my ability to wreck Andrade,” says Williams. “He says he is the most avoided man in boxing, but I am chasing him so he isn’t being avoided.

“I don’t think he wants the fight, but he can’t keep hiding. It is just a matter of time and I am sure we will get to the bottom of the situation in the next couple of weeks.

“I believe it will be Andrade after Robinson, but I don’t believe Andrade wants to fight me. I wouldn’t say he is scared of me because that is probably a bit far-fetched, but he is wary.”

Williams says he understands the champion’s caution. “If he got beaten by a bigger name it would be acceptable because he could earn money from other fights.

“I am not a fool and understand the sport, but I am low reward, high risk for Andrade.

“I want to take a world title from the champion, but I just want my opportunity and whoever it is against I will win.”

Williams v Robinson, plus the undercard on the Queensberry Promotions show, will be broadcast on BT Sport in the UK and ESPN+ in the United States.
