Llyr Leading The Way In Huws Gray Alliance

Llyr Morris is leading the way in the Huws Gray Alliance goal charts.

Ruthin Town striker Morris, 21, has netted 17 goals over the first half of the season.

He joined Ruthin at the age of 11 and has developed into a highly effective forward, able to take defenders on and shoot with either foot.

Morris has the chance to show his scoring talents live on S4C early in the new year when Ruthin travel to Llandudno in the JD Welsh Cup fourth round.

That tie, being played at the Giant Hospitality Stadium in Llandudno, has been selected as the S4C game of the round and is being played on Saturday, January 27 (5.15pm kick-off).

Llandudno played Alliance opposition at home in the last round, beating Gresford Athletic 4-0, while Ruthin defeated Welsh Premier League Prestatyn Town 3-0.

Ruthin have been drawn away in all four rounds so far, beating Meliden 4-0 and Brickfield Rangers 3-2 before going to Gresford.

Iwan Williams, Llandudno’s manager, knows the task his team face having led former club Caernarfon to a 3-0 Alliance win against Ruthin before his move to the WPL.

Both teams are mid-table in their respective divisions and they clash with a place in the quarter-finals at stake.

The game will be shown on S4C’s Sgorio, with commentary available in Welsh and English. Sgorio’s next live broadcast is tomorrow’s (Saturday 9) JD Welsh Premier League clash between Bala Town and The New Saints. Kick-off will be at 5.15pm.

Alliance leaders Caernarfon Town are at home against Porthmadog on Boxing Day (2.30pm).

More than 100 matches have been played in the Alliance this season – the two fixtures this afternoon take the total to 106 – and 443 goals scored at an average of 4.26 per match.

Caernarfon have netted 56 goals and are unbeaten away, while Guilsfield have the best defensive record having conceded 16. They are unbeaten at home.

Guilsfield have that record tested when Caersws visit Clos Mytton on Boxing Day (2.30pm).
