Michael Flynn has urged Newport County to end their mammoth week of three games and 1200 miles on a high at Salford City on Tuesday.

The Exiles boss felt his side had slipped from their usual standards in a 2-1 defeat at Leyton Orient after taking the lead.

County are still top by three points and could consolidate that with victory at Salford having started their week of away days with a 2-0 win at Grimsby.

“We’re 17 games in now and looking forward to Tuesday,” said Flynn.

“It’s going to be a tough game and we’ll hopefully end the long week of travelling on a positive with three points.

“We shot ourselves in the foot in the second half (at Orient). The goals we gave away were really poor.

“I’m not going to beat myself up over it and the players know it wasn’t good enough.

“From the standards we’ve set, the goals we gave away were poor, but we should have easily had a point.”

Jamie Proctor fired County ahead in the first-half but they eventually paid for not killing off the game as they crashed to a first defeat in six games.

Danny Johnson and James Brophy netted in an eight-minute spell and County were denied a point when sub Tristan Abrahams’ effort was ruled out for a disputed foul in the build-up.

“The goal that was disallowed, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it,” Flynn added.

“It was an outstanding goal from Jamie, and we should have scored more in the first half.

“We knew if we got a second goal we would have won the game.

“It has come back to bite us on the backside again because we haven’t killed a team off and given them the impetus in the second half.
