North Wales Venues Chosen For FAW Cup Finals

The FAW have chosen two Huws Gray Alliance grounds to host two important cup games

The 201718 FAW Trophy Final between Rhos Aelwyd and Conwy Borough will be played at Airbus UK Broughton’s Hollingsworth Group Stadium on Saturday, April 7 (2pm).

The ground hosted the semi-final in which Rhos defeated Greenfield thanks to a late winner from Scott Reeves.

Conwy meanwhile booked their place in the Final with a 3-0 win over Penydarren BGC at Aberystwyth Town’s Park Avenue.

Both sides have previously won the Trophy, Conwy back in 1982, a 1-0 win over Blaenau Ffestiniog, and Rhos in 2008, beating Corwen 4-2.

Admission to the final on April 7 will be £4 adults, £2 concessions.

The game will be the first part of what is sure to be a busy day of cup football in North Wales, with Connah’s Quay Nomads and Bangor City meeting in the JD Welsh Cup Semi-Final the evening at Belle Vue, home of Rhyl football club.

Airbus Broughton, who are second in the Huws Huws Gray Alliance behind Caernarfon Town, missed the chance to close the gap to one point when they were held to a 1-1 home draw by Denbigh Town.

Airbus held the advantage at the break thanks to a Kristian Platt strike four minutes before the break, while Gareth Partridge equalised  for Denbigh a minute from time

Leaders Caernarfon Town’s game at Holywell Town was postponed, while Rhyl moved into third spot thanks to a 2-1 home success against Caersws.

Neither side managed to find the net in the first half. but four minutes into the second half Phil Marsh netted at the far post to put Rhyl ahead.

Caersws were level within seven minutes when Steve Blenkinsop capitalised on a mistake in the Rhyl defence. The decisive goal came on 77 minutes with Jason Jefferies on target for Rhyl winner

Guilsfield took a 13th minute lead at home to Porthmadog through Adam Jenkins.

Julian Williams equalised for Porthmadog before the break, while Port were reduced to 10 men early in the second half after Rob Evans was shown a second yellow card.

This seemed to spur them on as Sion Bradley scored two to make it five goals in his last two games and earn a 3-1 win.

Flint Town United took an 18th minute lead at home to Holyhead Hotspur with Shaun Beck on target. They doubled their advantage through Mark Cadwallader five minutes before the break and a second half Richie Foulkes penalty completed a 3-0 win and gave Flint their eighth league win of the season

FC Queens Park went head after 20 minutes at Penrhyncoch, but the home team emerged 3-1 winners.

Two goals in the last two minutes of the first half from Jon Evans, his second from the penalty spot after Park’s Matthew was sent off saw Penrhyn ahead at the break.

Stef Davies added a third in the second half to secure the points

An early penalty converted by the league’s leading scorer, Llyr Morris, gave Ruthin Town the lead against visitors Gresford Athletic.

Owen Roberts equalised and Jack Chaloner headed Gresford’s winner on the hour.
