It's Official – Cardiff Devils On Fire For The New Season

Cardiff Devils have forged strong links with National League club Cardiff Fire.

The affiliation will see players from Fire training with the Devils and potentially playing games with the Elite League team.

Fire operate Ice Arena Wales-Based teams in National League divisions One and Two.

Devils season ticket holders will get a £2 discount off tickets for all Fire games just by presenting card.

Mark Cuddihy, head coach and general manager of Fire, spoke about this partnership, saying: “It’s an exciting time for junior players coming through and this gives the best players a pathway for development.

“In Cardiff we now have every single level of senior hockey, a genuine, joined up pathway.

“This is great for the guys on the Fire rosters and for young kids coming up through Junior Devils.”

Devils player/coach Andrew Lord said: “This is a very good partnership for developing players in Cardiff.

“Since I arrived in Cardiff I don’t think I remember a time when there was a cohesive plan for player development. I believe this is a great first step.”

Devils also confirmed two players will be on two-way contracts between teams in National League Division One and Devils.

Teenager Toms Rutkis, 19, who has already agreed to terms with the Swindon Wildcats, will be training with Devils all season while he attends University in Cardiff.

He scored eight goals with seven assists in 33 games for the Wildcats last season. Rutkis will make his debut with Devils this weekend against Nottingham Panthers.

Callum Buglass, 21, will be training with Devils again this season. He is coming off an injury that limited him to only 14 games last season, but is back to full strength and will be playing for Fire.

Both players have the potential to earn Devils game time this season.

Scottish player Craig Moore, 22, has already signed full-time for Devils and falls under the new EIHL rule for U-23 players on team rosters. Rutkis and Buglass fall under the same rule.
