Rooney Shows Big Brother Wayne He Is Also Goal Scorer As Wrexham Win

John Rooney showed that brother Wayne was not the only goalscorer in the family as he helped fire Wrexham to a 2-1 victory over Woking.

Just hours after Wayne equalled Sir Bobby Charlton’s goalscoring record at Manchester United with his 249th, John struck the opener at the Racecourse.

Rooney, who made the switch from Chester this season, netted the opener after the break for his seventh goal of the season.

Fabio Saraiva levelled for the visitors with a low-level header four minutes later but Robbie Evans bagged the winner on the hour mark.

he win – a second in three games – after a run of four straight defeats lifted Dean Keates side into 15th place.

Keates said: “We made a few changes, freshened things up this week and we definitely deserved the three points.

“I didn’t ask for a performance before the game. I just said to them today it was ultimately about three points.

“If the performance comes on top of it, that’s a bonus.”

James Jennings and Izale McLeod both made their debuts for the Dragons.

And Keates added: “We will go again this week and hopefully bring a few more faces in.”
