‘Right Hand’ Rosie Packs A Punch As Eccles Strikes Gold In Belgrade

By Gareth James

Rosie Eccles fought her way to a superb gold medal at the Belgrade Winner tournament in Serbia.

Wales’ 2018 Commonwealth Games silver medalist triumphed over Navbakhor Khamidova of Uzbekistan.

It is the 24-year-old Gwent fighter’s second medal of 2021 after she won bronze on her ring return in Hungary earlier this year.

Eccles also saw off local boxer Aleksandra Rapaic and Balzhan Askar of Kazakhstan on her way to the 69kg category final.

Eccles was beaten in the London qualifier last year before that event was stopped due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Wales’ world champ Lauren Price, favourite to strike gold in Japan, was originally named in the Team GB team for Belgrade, but was a late withdrawal.
