Sizzling Airbus Flying High After 100 Per Cent Start

Airbus Broughton have made a sizzling start to their Huw’s Gary Alliance campaign and boast a 100 per cent record after 11 matches.

They are 12 points ahead of second-placed Flint Town United.

Airbus were made to work for their 2-1 victory at Buckley Town. Both sides had chances during an end-to-end first half with neither able to break the deadlock.

Buckley were on top in the second half and opened the scoring after 78 minutes when Dylan Roberts finished off a fluent passing move.

Airbus equalised through Kristian Platt after 85 minutes when he fired home following a corner and three minutes later substitute Lewis Buckley rifled home the decisive goal to maintain Airbus’s winning start.

It was an exciting game for more than 300 spectators to watch.

Flint remain second after an injury time goal from Richie Foulkes gave them a 1-0 win at home to Gresford Athletic, who lost their goalkeeper to a head injury in the opening minutes and also missed a first half penalty.

In-form Porthmadog netted a goal in each half, both netted by Shaun Cavanagh, in a 2-0 success. They had the chance to make it three late in the game, but a penalty by Gruff John Williams was saved by goalkeeper Ryan Goodson

Guilsfield took the lead three minutes before half-time at Holywell Town through Sam Litchfield and Steve Blenkinsop doubled their advantage at the start of the second.

A Steve Lewis penalty brought Holywell back into the game and a goal by Shaun Tuck gave them a share of the points.

Bangor City scored two second half goals to win 2-0 at Penrhyncoch with Mark Williams and Jake Phillips on target.

Prestatyn Town’s returning manager Neil Gibson recorded his first win since his rejoining the club with a 3-0 success against visitors Conwy Borough

After a goalless first half Oli Buckley opened the scoring after 49 minutes and with Ian Griffiths and Alex Jones  completing their tally.

It was Borough’s heaviest defeat of the season as Prestatyn ran out 3-0 winners. In a first half of few chances both goalkeepers, Keighan Jones for Conwy and Prestatyn’s Ryan Roberts, produced some good saves.

Gareth Thomas, nicknamed Perry, said: “We were poor throughout, second best all over the park.

“I take the blame because I picked the team, but, that said, Prestatyn showed a bigger desire for the game and that is something that I won’t accept.

“We will work hard to strengthen the squad. We are a third of the way through our season and over the last few weeks we have been poor.

“It’s important we all take some responsibility and work together to turn this result around.”

Rhyl’s recent good run of results continued when they defeated Holyhead Hotspur 5-0 at home.

James Murphy opened the scoring after 22 minutes with Ben Nash and Cai Owen also on target in the first half. Second half goals from Barry Torrance and Matthew Worrall gave Rhyl a convincing victory.

Director of football Eddie Maurice-Jones was delighted Rhyl’s 5-0 win over Holyhead Hotspur, saying: “It was a brilliant performance.

“The most important thing was the clean sheet. That’s something we have been working towards for a while and you can see what it meant to the lads.840b2968-5f06-4f0f-be62-b506660d1824.gif

“They are starting to show what we are all about and the lads are now playing with a smile on their faces. We changed things a bit to give other lads a go and our front three were outstanding during the first half.

“They were too much for Holyhead to handle.

“Their pressing from the front won the ball back high up the pitch, allowed us to dictate how we played and confidence spread like wildfire throughout the squad.”

The Lilies make a tricky trip to Buckley Town on Saturday before taking on Caersws in the JD Welsh Cup.

A goal in each half from Shaun Cavanagh earned Porthmadog a well-deserved 2-0 win over Ruthin Town and lifted them into third place.

The solid 2-0 win also marked goalkeeper Paul Pritchard’s sixth clean sheet in eight games, despite the visitors showing far more aggression in the second period.

Manager Craig Papirnyk opted for pace in attack with Tomos Emlyn and Ryan Taylor in the wide positions and Cavanagh through the middle.

Ceri James tested Ruthin goalkeeper Ryan Gouldston from 18 yards, following a corner, while Taylor controlled Emlyn’s crossfield ball and fired across goal.

Jay Gibbs and Gruff John also combined well to put Cavanagh through on goal, but a good defensive block denied him.

When Ruthin counter-attacked, Craig Wilkinson’s angled shot curled wide of keeper Pritchard’s far post – but on 27 minutes Port took a well deserved lead.

A James assist found Cavanagh in behind the Ruthin defence and he drilled home from 15 yards.

The visitors came out strongly in the second half, with some beefy tackles producing yellow cards, but Pritchard was only threatened by shots from distance.

The introduction of Sion Edwards just before the hour mark impacted on the game in Port’s favour they made it 2-0 after 70 minutes.

Iwan Lewis burst through on the right and when his cross was headed back across goal by Taylor it was Cavanagh who finished off the move with a close range header.

Substitute Dan Dascalu forced Gouldston into another good save, while Port could have made it 3-0 on 87 minutes when Dascalu was brought down in the penalty box.

Gouldston, however, pulled off an outstanding save to deny Gruff John from the spot.

John also saw a late goalbound header cleared off the line, but two goals were more than enough to claim victory.
