By Tom Prosser Welsh football star Jess Fishlock says “It’s Heart-breaking to see the abuse aimed at female footballers who are playing purely for their love of the game”- this has led to The Football Association of Wales and the Welsh Government joining forces to tackling online hate towards girls and women. “Trying to put someone down because of something they love, is not big, smart or funny,” explains Fishlock, who is Wales’ most capped footballer. “I always say that people should think about how the person receiving the abuse could be affected before sharing and I’m glad to have worked with my Cymru teammates and the FAW to further educate others on what is and isn’t acceptable online."

Men’s National Coach Peter Haysham has named a full team of six – up from five when the event was last held in 2019 – and includes four of the team who won a silver medal in Iceland two years ago. Emil Barber (Swansea Gymnastics Centre), Brinn Bevan (South Essex), Joe Cemlyn-Jones (City of Birmingham) and Jacob Edwards (Olympus) return as they bid to go one better by grabbing team gold on home soil.

Charlotte Arter retained her title ahead of Cardiff team-mate Jenny Nesbitt, while Derby's Hugo Milner produced a blistering time to win the men's race. The sun came out to celebrate the event's elevation to global standard and training partners Arter and Nesbitt rose to the occasion in the most un-cross country-like warm conditions.

Despite having only three test caps to his name Wasps back-row star Young was named in the Wales squad for this autumn's tests against New Zealand, South Africa, Fiji, and Australia after signing a contract to join Cardiff Rugby next season. And Pivac is confident the likes of Leicester’s Tommy Reffell, Bristol’s Callum Sheedy, Bath’s Taulupe Faletau, and Gloucester’s Louis Rees-Zammit will eventually join a Welsh region in the near future.
