Matt Richards has become the second fastest British man of all time over 50m. The 19-year-old Team Wales Commonwealth Games star smashed his own personal best when he won the 50m freestyle at the 2022 Swim England Winter Championships on Friday night. Richards – Olympic Gold medal winner last year in the men's 4 × 200 metre freestyle relay in Tokyo – won his 50m sprint event, with Welsh star Medi Harris also taking gold in the women’s 50m backstroke.
New Commonwealth Games Wales chief executive Rebecca Edwards-Symmons says she is keen to build on the legacy of predecessor Chris Jenkins. Edwards-Symmons – a former head of commercial at Swansea City – has been appointed chief executive following the retirement of Chris Jenkins after Birmingham 2022. Jenkins had been CGW chief executive for 17 years, while several current Board members' terms are due to end during the build up to the next Games in Victoria, Australia, in 2026.

Former Wales forward Alix Popham believes rugby is still not dealing with the problem of head injuries – and fears a generation of young players are going to ignore the sport. Popham, who won 33 caps between 2003 and 2008 and played in two World Cups, was diagnosed two years ago with probable chronic traumatic encephalopathy at the age of just 40. He says the rugby authorities are "not learning" from the ongoing experience of players and studies linking rugby to brain injury.
