Teenager Mark Harris Could Be Given First Team Experience Against Fulham In FA Cup

Neil Warnock could be tempted to give teenager Mark Harris his first taste of senior action against Fulham on Sunday (11.30am).

The Bluebirds manager has said he will make team changes for the third round tie with Jazz Richards, Emyr Huws, Matty Kennedy, Declan John and Harris in his thoughts.

Goalkeeper Brian Murphy will make his third successive first team appearance, says Warnock, while Rickie Lambert needs match minutes and is also likely to start.

Wales under-19 international Harris, a long-term City Academy player nicknamed ‘Sparky’, has been awarded a senior contract by Warnock, who is keen to show young players there is a clear route from youth team football to the Championship for those who have ability and a hunger to succeed.

Both Ibrahim Meite, the 20-year-old striker whose move from Harrow Borough to Cardiff is set to be confirmed, or Rhys Healey, back with the Bluebirds after his loan spell at Newport ended, are ineligible for Sunday’s clash with Fulham. They have have already played in the FA Cup this season.

Cardiff are keen to win their clash with Fulham, who could include former City full-back Scott Malone, but Warnock is also focused on their next Championship fixture, at Bristol City on Saturday, January 14 (Noon).

He is also having talks with Peter Whittingham over a possible new contract and working to add ‘three or four’ new signings to his squad during the January transfer window.

Warnock would love to add a goalkeeper, wide midfield player and a natural goalscorer.

Scunthorpe goalie Luke Daniels, out of contract this summer, has been linked with a move to Cardiff. He is first choice for the promotion-chasing League One club.

City have also watched Guinea international winger Abdoul Camara, who has yet to start a Championship match for Derby County and Aberdeen’s Johnny Hayes, who could be available for £500,000.

Birmingham City’s 25-year-old midfield player David Davis has attracted attention from Cardiff and Nottingham Forest, although new Blues manager Gianfranco Zola wants the former Wolves man to stay at St Andrews. Davis is out of contract with Birmingham this summer, but Zola is set to offer him a new deal.

The arrival of pace ace Meite from Harrow, the emergence of 22-year-old Kenneth Zohore and Rickie Lambert’s return to fitness has eased the pressure on Warnock in attack, but he would still like to add one more experienced forward.

City also need to let a number of players go and have already told many of their under-23 development squad players they can move on, including Tommy O’Sullivan, Tom James and Theo Wharton.

Defender Bruno Manga, a £5m signing from French club Lorient in 2014, would be allowed to move on for the right price, but any transfer could be complicated because he is currently with Gabon for the Africa Cup of Nations.

All negotiations will be conducted through Manga’s agent with the player extremely difficult to get hold of during the tournament.

Goalkeeper Ben Amos, Semi Ajayi, Declan John, Lex Immers, Matty Kennedy, Craig Noone and Frederic Gounongbe would all be deemed surplus to requirements if the right offer came in, while Warnock is also braced for bids to target those players he would rather keep.

Marouane Chamakh and Keiran Richardson have already left after their short-term contracts ended.

Who will Warnock select to play against Fulham in the FA Cup this Sunday?

Lambert and Whittingham, if he has recovered from the calf injury which kept him out of the 1-0 win against against Aston Villa, both need to play, while Warnock will take the chance to watch Jazz Richards and Emyr Huws in competitive action.

Possible line-up: B Murphy; J Richards, M Connolly, S Bamba (capt), D John; P Whittingham, S O’Keefe, E Huws, J Hoilett; A Pilkington, R Lambert. Subs, from: B Wilson (gk), J Bennett, S Morrison, M Kennedy, A Gunnarsson, L Immers, M Harris, K Zohore, F Gounongbe.
