Trebanog FC.

Terrifying Trebanog Prove DAIsolate Cup Real Deal As They Crush Carn . . . Can Anyone Stop Them?

Trebanog have thrown down the gauntlet – having slapped Carn Rovers around the head with it – in the first round of the DAIsolate Cup.

The Rhondda Valley club, who play in the South Wales Alliance Premier, sent out a chilling warning to the rest by thrashing their hapless opponents 23-0 in the first round of the home-based FIFA tournament for Welsh clubs.

No-one will fancy mixing it with mighty Trebanog after hours of self-isolating enabled them to produce the tie of the round against their Bridgend and District League division one opposition.

But Trebanog were not the only club to flex their finger and thumb muscles with an eye-catching victory in the opening round of the competition.

Newtown beat BF Llansawel Ladies 15-1, Risca United were 12-1 winners over Drefach Under 15s, while Baglan Dragons went one better with a 12-0 shut-out against Briton Ferry Llansawel in a match that someone, somewhere dubbed the Battle of Briton Ferry Bridge.

A special mention, too, to Holyhead Hotspur. In true Mourinho-style, Spurs parked the bus at Treforst FC and came away with a gritty 1-0 victory.

It all means that the 128 teams who began the Ammanford AFC-inspired tournament to raise funds for food banks and NHS provision have been whittled down to just 64 with a few swipes of the key pad.

The action from the first round finished at close to 10pm on Thursday night and those who made it into the hat for the last 64 – and round two – will be anxiously awaiting Friday’s draw to see their next opponents.
