Welsh Hope Aidan Heslop Bids To Outshine Tom Daley

New Team Wales member Aidan Heslop is going to get an early taste of what he can expect when he goes to the Gold Coast for his Commonwealth Games debut in April when he competes in the 2018 British Diving Championships at the Plymouth Life Centre.

It might be his home pool, but the 15-year-old will be taking on some of the biggest names in the sport this weekend in what will be a final trial for the English team to for the Gold Coast.

Heading the all-star cast will be world champion Tom Daley and three-time Olympian Tania Crouch, with Heslop looking to get among the medals in the 5 and 10 metre platform events. He has already won the 10 metre title at the Scottish championships and last year took the bronze medal at the European Junior Championships.

His first foray into the big time saw him win a bronze at the FINA Grand Prix in Madrid and this weekend’s event will give him to chance to assess his chances down under, when he will become the first Welsh dive to compete at the Commonwealth Games since Bob Morgan made his fifth appearance in 1998.

Morgan, who won the gold medal at the 1990 Games off the high board in Auckland, was just 16 when he made his Team Wales bow in Brisbane in 1982.
