Joe Kenton's brace puts Newtown third in the table [Newtown AFC]

WPL Weekend Scoreboard: Connah’s Quay Maintain Lead, Newtown On The Rise

Connah’s Quay continue to lead the JD Welsh Premier League table after a 3-1 win at Cardiff Met saw them reclaim top spot on Sunday afternoon.

Rhys Thomas pegged a goal back for Cardiff Met after Callum Morris and Declan Poole had given Connah’s Quay a 2-0 lead by the midway point of the first half, but Andy Owens’ far-post header restored the Nomads’ two goal advantage and their two point lead at the top.

The New Saints recovered from last weekend’s shock defeat with a dominant away performance against Carmarthen Town.

The Old Gold held out until the second half but fell away with Jamie Mullan, Greg Draper and Kurtis Byrne all finding the target for Saints.

Newtown continued their impressive campaign, moving up to third in the table, as young winger Joe Kenton scored late in each half to bring Barry Town’s winning run to an end at Latham Park. 20-year-old Kenton scored in added time in both halves to secure Newtown a third straight win, as they after leapfrog Barry in the table on goal difference.

Jordan Follows scored the winner as bottom side Llanelli snapped a five game losing streak away to Llandudno to move within a point of safety. Llandudno found themselves chasing the game after Jamie Loveridge had put Llanelli in front and defender Mike Pearson replied for the hosts on the stroke of half-time. Llandudno attacked with increased urgency in the second period but were undone when Llanelli countered with Follows firing in his first goal of the season with in style, dribbling past two players before firing into the top-corner from outside of the box.

Caernarfon were unable to see off top-six counterparts Barry Town despite an inspired performance from Danny Brockwell. The winger scored two fine solo efforts for the Cofis but stubborn Bala twice fought back through Chris Venables and Steven Tames.

Cefn Druids had substitute James Davies to thank for their victory over Aberystwyth. Aberystwyth had looked set to take a share of the spoils at the Rock until Davies, returning from injury, curled in an 86th minute winner from the edge of the area.
