Bluebirds Open Pre-Season Against Cardiff’s Welsh League Wellmen

Cardiff City will open their pre-season fixtures against Welsh League Taffs Well on Friday, July 14 (7pm).

Manager Neil Warnock has finalised most of their matches before the 2017-18 Championship season starts on Saturday, August 5.

They head off on a week-long tour to Devon and Cornwall, while there are also matches against League Two champions Portsmouth at Cardiff City Stadium and one more away fixture to be announced.

Manager Neil Warnock and his Bluebirds take on the Wellmen at their Rhiw Dda’r ground before they head off to the South West.

City have five fixtures while they are away, three first team two for the club’s under-23 players.

Dai_Sport revealed the pre-season tour matches last month and they are unchanged.

Warnock has issued an open invitation to supporters who want to watch their team during the trip to Devon and Cornwall, saying: “Be it tents or 5 Star accommodation come and join us.”

“We will also have an open day on the Tuesday (July 18) when fans can watch training and mix with players after the session.”

The Bluebirds team boss is moving in on ’three or four’ players he wants to sign for next season and they could be confirmed early next month.

“I’ve agreed a couple of fringe players, but I’m looking to sign three or four players to add to that squad in the next few weeks,” he says. “It might be the beginning of June.

“I believe the future is bright for our club. It’s fair to say that when I arrived, it wasn’t a good situation.

“I had interviews at Nottingham Forest and Blackburn Rovers and I wonder what they are thinking because I had good interviews but they went elsewhere.

“That is Cardiff’s gain, really. I’m enjoying every minute of it. Bluebirds fans have been fabulous and I think I’ve turned the club around.”

Blackburn were relegated, while Forest stayed up on goal difference with a win in their last match of the season.

Warnock has been linked with a move for Southampton striker Sam Gallagher, a 21-year-old who impressed during his loan spell at Blackburn.

The 21-year-old joined Blackburn on a season-long loan, scored 11 goals and created 25 chances in 41 Championship appearances.

Aston Villa, Sunderland and Wolves are other clubs interested in signing Gallagher.

Cardiff’s pre-season match against the Wellmen will be in association with Cancer Research Wales and is set to attract a hefty attendance.

The players then take to the road for five fixtures in six days.

Three of these games will be predominantly first-team fixtures, though the two Under-23 fixtures below are set to include senior players.
