‘Electric’ Dragons Too Hot For Kent Club Ebbsfleet

Wrexham’s attacking trio of Rekeil Pyke, Chris Holroyd and Stuart Beavon were ‘electric’ in their 4-1 Vanarama National League home win against Ebbsfleet United.

The Dragons led by four goals by half-time in front of 4,700-plus spectators at the Racecourse and all three scored with Pike netting via his second back heel strike of the season.

“Our start was electric,” said Pyke. “We worked well as a front three, were filling in for each other when needed to and took our goals well.

“We kept the ball well and worked well as a front three.”

Wrexham manager Sam Ricketts admitted the explosive start was all part of their gameplan and singled out the three forwards for particular praise.

“The first half was the best we’ve played,” he said. “We were outstanding.

“The gameplan was to come out on the front foot and impose ourselves. The front three were a real handful and would have posed a threat for anybody the way they played.

“All three of them scored as well – that’s a perfect half.

“Chris has been really unfortunate to find himself out of the team. He was injured at the start of the year and just hasn’t been able to force his way back in, through no fault of his own.

“I’m delighted for him – it was an excellent performance and excellent goal.”

Holroyd scored his first goal of the season, while Beavon, Pyke and captain were the other Wrexham scorers.

Danny Kedwell pulled one back for the visitors in the second half, heading in a cross from the left, but Wrexham eased to a seventh win from 11 games this season.

Ricketts made three changes to his Wrexham line-up, Holroyd, Paul Rutherford and Pyke stepping up for Mike Fondop, Jordan Maguire-Drew and Luke Young.

Former Cardiff City defender Luke Coulson was in Ebbsfleet team, but they were left gasping after Wrexham’s first half onslaught.

Manager Ricketts’ team are second in the League table, one point behind leaders Harrogate Town.

The next test for Wrexham is at seventh-placed Sutton United on Saturday, while Harrogate entertain Leyton Orient.
