Lord’s Devils Ready To Leap Into Play-Offs Blaze

Andrew Lord says his Cardiff Devils team are playing for the ‘ultimate prize’ in this season’s end-of-season PredictorBet play-offs.

Head coach Lord is preparing Devils for their Elite League quarter-final against Coventry Blaze and says: “Play-off hockey is totally different and we need to be ready for that.

“We will be playing for the ultimate prize. Every game means so much in this play-off format, every play can make a dramatic difference.”

Devils play Blaze at the Skydome in Coventry on Good Friday (7.30pm) with the return leg at Ice Arena Wales on Sunday (6pm).

Lord’s men have already won the League title for a second successive season and the Erhardt Conference, while they are bidding to win the play-offs for the first time in almost 20 years.

The quarter-final against Blaze on Sunday is the final Devils home match of a hugely successful season and there are less than 200 tickets left.

Lord won’t give anything away about team selection and even hinted that he might even include himself after scoring the final goal of Devils League season in the 7-3 win against Milton Keynes Lightning.

Drew Paris and Bryce Reddick sat out the clash with Lightning and both are back in contention for selection along with Lord, who must sit out two imports to stay within the maximum 14.

“It’s a good match-up against Blaze and we need to use the experience we’ve had over the last few seasons,” said Lord. “There will be close games which go down to the wire.

“Coventry battle hard, have a lot of guys who play well both sides of the puck. They play with pride and energy.

“The play-offs bring a challenge and pressure, but also excitement. Our guys are pumped up for that.

“We are in good shape and need to play to our standards, to our levels.”

The full PredictorBet play-offs quarter-final line-up is: Cardiff Devils v Coventry Blaze, Manchester Storm v Fife Flyers, Sheffield Steelers v Guildford Flames, Nottingham Panthers v Belfast Giants (Overtime and penalties will be used after the second leg if needed).
