Sean’s County Bluebirds Flying High At The Top

The Bluebirds are flying high at the top after a five-goal home win.

Haverfordwest County powered to victory against Goytre FC and lead the way in Nathaniel Car Sales Welsh League Division One.

Manager Sean Cresser and his team have edged ahead of rivals Llanelli Town, whose fixture against Goytre United away was postponed.

Striker Steff Williams led the charge for County, scoring four goals for County during an outstanding team performance.

Former Carmarthen and Aberystwyth forward Williams caused problems for Goytre FC with his pace and clinical finishing.

Manager Sean Wharton’s Goytre, who include former Cardiff City player Leon Jeanne, are the only team to beat Haverfordwest in the League this season, winning 3-2 at Plough Road.

The return fixture proved one-sided with the Bluebirds in command. Their next match is against Taffs Well at Rhiw Ddar this Saturday (2pm) before taking on Briton Ferry Llansawel on Friday, February 2 (7.30pm).

Haverfordwest led 1-0 at half-time against Goytre and the goal was scored after two minutes when Declan Carroll crossed low and Williams netted from close range.

Home goalkeeper Conah McFenton saved well from Goytre’s Luke Prosser, but the home team created the better chances and should have been more than one-goal ahead.

Williams scored his second on the hour and completed a hat-trick from a penalty after Greg Walters was fouled.

It was Walters who made it 4-0 after 71 minutes, scoring after a powerful run and fierce shot, while Williams took his personal tally to four from his second spot-kick.

Carroll and Dan Williams were outstanding going forward, while Steff Williams was willing to work hard defensively and stop Jeanne causing problems.

Sean Pemberton and Tim Hicks were solid and effective at the heart of defence, helping McFenton keep a clean sheet.

The ball was played over the top for Sacha to score the first, shooting high into the net, while Jones netted a beauty when he ran free and was forced wide before backheeling just inside a post.

Walters could have made it 3-0 from a flowing passing move, but his close range shot from Josh Webber’s cross flew out of the ground.

Cwmamman had Jordan Vickers sent off for a foul on Walters, while Lido’s Alex Gammond was dismissed on a straight red card just before half-time.

Lido’s lead was cut in the last two minutes, but they held on to take the points.
