Omoregie Misses Out On Final In Belgrade

David Omoregie missed out on a European Indoor Championships 60mHurdles final spot in Belgrade on Friday.

The Cardiff AAC athlete finished third in his semi-final with only the top two automatically progressing to the final.

Omoregie’s time was 7.71 secs – 0.08secs off the personal best he set at the Welsh Championships in January.

France’s Pascal Martinot-Lagarde won the heat in 7.61 secs with Andreas Martinsen just pipping the Welshman for the other qualifying spot with a Danish record of 7.68secs.

“I had a decent start – I clipped the first hurdle, but I didn’t feel like it affected me too much.” said the 21-year-old, the only Welsh athlete in the British team in Serbia.

“I think it was more towards the end as the Danish guy came through strongly and took second. But it is what it is, I just have to prepare for the outdoor season now.

“Generally I felt quite good coming in to this, I’ve had a good two weeks prior to being over here, but it just didn’t happen for me today.

“I’ll have a week off now, and then we’ll get straight back into training ahead of the outdoors.”

Omoregie’s training partner and title favourite Andy Pozzi qualified quickest after winning his semi in 7.52secs.

The world record is still held by Colin Jackson who clocked 7.30secs at a meeting in Sindelfingen, Germany, on March 6th 1994
