Whittingham Set To Leave Bluebirds And Head North

Playmaker Peter Whittingham is set to leave Cardiff City after a decade with the Championship club.

Blackburn Rovers are leading the chase to sign Whittingham, although Bristol City and other Championship clubs are also keen.

The Bluebirds have offered ’Whitts’ a new one-year contract on reduced terms, while Rovers have a two-year deal for the midfield player.

Whittingham, popular and respected among Cardiff fans, made more than 450 appearances and scored almost 100 goals during the last 10 years. He played in 37 Championship fixtures last season, firing seven goals with eight assists.

Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray is looking to rebuild his squad at Ewood Park following relegation from the Championship last season and believes Whittingham’s creativity, composure and experience will be invaluable.

He is out of contract at Cardiff and has decided to move on for a new challenge.

Defender Deji Oshilaja has left the Bluebirds and is signing for League One AFC Wimbledon.

The 24-year-old made 23 appearances for the Dons on loan with the then-League Two club in 2014-15 season.

He has not played for Cardiff since August 2014, having spent the past two seasons on loan at Gillingham.

“I know that our fans really took to Deji a couple of seasons ago,” said manager Neal Ardley.

“I believe he could be a top centre-back and that he could also fill in for us at full-back when needed.”

Tickets are on sale for the Taffs Well v Cardiff City pre-season fixtures at Rhiw Ddar on Friday, July 14 (7pm).

They are available from the clubhouse, which is open every night from 7.30pm, and will be on sale from the Rose and Crown, Pontypridd within a few days. Adult tickets are £10, concessions £5.

Bluebirds manager Warnock has confirmed he will be sending his first team for this friendly to help support The Wellman v Cancer appeal.
