Devils Players Turning Out In Force To Sign Autographs

Cardiff Devils players are turning out in force to sign on this Sunday.

The whole team will be signing team posters after the Elite League home fixture against Braehead Clan on Sunday (6pm).

The posters are the work of local tattoo artist Stu Bob James, who also draws the pictures of the players for weekly post-match signings.

There is not a signing session on Saturday, when Devils are at home against Sheffield Steelers, but every player will join in the following evening.

Posters are £5 each and will be available after the game to be signed on Sunday.

This is a huge weekend for Devils in their quest to retain the Elite League ice hockey title and both matches are certain to be fiercely contested.

Lord is expected at least one of his injured players, Josh Batch, Mark Louis and Justin Faryna to be available this weekend, although he has made it clear they will only be considered if they are 100 per cent fit.

Steelers tough guy Zack Fitzgerald is almost fit, but Sheffield coach Paul Thompson has hinted he won’t be risked this weekend.

Fitzgerald, who was hit by a speeding puck disagrees with his coach and says: “I didn’t break my jaw, it’s just a few teeth.

“I had a bit of concussion, but I’m alright now and will be back on Saturday.”

He is ready to play wearing a full face guard which will give him extra protection if he is selected to play at Cardiff Devils on Saturday.

Steelers had a confidence-boosting 7-2 win at Dundee Stars on Wednesday in the Challenge Cup quarter-final first leg.

If Steelers win on aggregate over two legs against Stars they will play Cardiff or Guildford Flames in the semi-finals.

There are still around 500 tickets left for Sunday’s fixture at Ice Arena Wales, while the clash with Steelers is close to a sell-out.

Player-coach Andrew Lord is preparing for a massive challenge from Steelers, who have slipped slightly off the pace and lost against Belfast Giants in their last match.

“The performance against Belfast was unacceptable on many levels,” says Sheffield’s Dave Simms. “The biggest issue is that we have too many guys simply out of form. That is multiplied when those guys are four of your top seven forwards.”

There are single seats dotted throughout the arena for the Steelers clash, but those who want two or more together give the arena a ring to book tickets.

There are some gold seats at centre ice that have come back on sale, but you need to call to book them on 0800 0842 666.

We also have some together directly behind the away player’s bench that can be booked over the phone or in person (not available to book online).
