Ferdinand Takyi, Wrexham’s imposing new striker, has Dover Athletic in his sights.
The Kent club, among the Dragons’ biggest rivals for promotion, could have a punishing time trying to contain Takyi if he leads the attack.
The powerful 6ft 4ins German-born hit-man made his debut for Wrexham as a substitute against Harrogate in the FA Trophy and says: “My physique is the biggest asset I have, my best attribute.
“I’m looking to enjoy my football with Wrexham and score goals. I love scoring goals.
“I was happy during my trial spell. It was an amazing experience and I’m proud to have made the right impression.
“The main priority is league success and I’m keen to play my part.”
Wrexham suffered a second successive defeat when they played Harrogate, losing 2-0 in the Trophy tie a week after crashing 4-1 at Macclesfield Town.
The Dragons are third in the Vanarama National League table, behind Macclesfield and Sutton United, and right in the hunt for promotion.
Dover are one point behind Wrexham and that makes Saturday’s clash at the Racecourse crucial.
Takyi, 23, has joined Wrexham on non-contract terms following a trial spell. He has been playing for Bognor Regis Town and also spent time at Reading and West Bromwich Albion.
The former Eintracht Braunschweig forward said: “Hopefully I did enough to show the manager and staff I am capable of getting some minutes in the league as well.
“There is always the ambition to score goals to impress. That is my main goal and from there we will see how it continues.”
Manager Dean Keates made seven changes to his team from the match at Macclesfield, saying: “We were disappointed with what happened at Macclesfield.
“I was not disrespecting the FA Trophy, but our ambition this season is to be in the promotion mix come the end of the season.
“As it stands at the moment, we are right smack bang in there and I saw it as an opportunity to give a few lads some time on the pitch and give one or two legs a rest.”
Dover will arrive in North Wales feeling good and manager Chris Kenner says: “At the beginning of this season we were rated one of the favourites to go down.
“We have turned that around, but just have to worry about the next game.
“I am pleased with the players so far.
“There’s still a little bit more to give with the players and I am sure they will do, as they have a lot of desire.”
Dover have won 4-0 and 3-0 in their last two matches, beating Hartlepool United in the league and Eastbourne in the FA Trophy respectively.
Wrexham have also been in good form at home, winning their last four matches at the Racecourse and conceding only one goal.
