Miles Retains Hirwaun Open Squash In Thrilling Final Against Welshman Elliott In Rhondda Cynon Taf

Miles Jenkins retained the Hirwaun Open Squash title in Aberdare, beating Welshman Elliott Morris Devred in a thrilling final.

Jones, whose highest World Ranking was 163, was crowned champion after beating Welsh Wizards Professional League player Morris Devred 11-4, 11-7, 12-14, 9-11, 11-9.

Top seed Jenkins had beaten Oliver Griffiths 11-4, 11-5, 11-2 and Lewis Poole 11-5, 11-6, 11-9 on his way to the A final.

Chichester-born Jenkins, who represented Great Britain at 2016 World University Squash Championships in Malaysia, at the Rob Owen Academy at West Warwicks Club in Solihull.

The 24-year-old combines competing on the Professional Squash Association World Tour with duties as head coach at Nottingham Trent University.

Young Welsh player Archie Turnbull won the B title, beating Llanishen’s Stuart Divry 6-11, 11-3, 11-2, 11-5 in the final.

Hirwaun Squash Federation’s own Craig Bluck won the C event champion, while Shivam Singhai won the D title by beating James Jones 11-3, 11-5, 11-6 in the final.
