Cork Warns Swansea To Plug Defensive Gaps

By Ian Gordon

Jack Cork has urged Swansea to sort out their set-piece woes if they want to win their relegation scrap.

The Swans have conceded from dead-ball situations for the past three games and it has cost them a vital four points in the last two matches.

Cork reckons the Welsh outfit could already be on the verge of securing their top-flight status but for conceding goals in the draws at West Brom and with Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The former Southampton midfielder, 26, said: “Set pieces are killing us, massively. It’s very disappointing.

“The last two games we should have taken two wins from and that’s four points we feel like we’ve missed out on.

“That would have put us above 30 points and we’d have probably only needed a couple more wins going to the end of the season.

“If you look at the table we’re four points clear but it could have been eight if we’d won the last two games which we could have.”

The Swans have one of the worst records in the Premier League for conceding goals from set-pieces though had they taken their other chances they would have seen off Palace.

And Cork added: “The more we try to work on it the more it seems to be going wrong.

“We were so comfortable in the game in the first-half against Palace then you come out after half-time and that happens.

“It completely ruins everything you have done so it’s not good and we do need to sort it out.”
