Shingler Goes From Scarlet To Blue And Earle Could Be Next

Steve Shingler’s move from the Scarlets to the Cardiff Blues next season has been confirmed and he could be joined at the Arms Park by George Earle.

Fly-half Shingler, 24, has been earmarked for the switch to the Blues since Rhys Patchell decided he would be travelling in the opposite direction.

It may not be the end of the traffic between the two regions, however, with South African second row Earle also weighing up leaving Parc Y Scarlets for the capital and a stint under ambitious head coach Danny Wilson.

Shingler, a former Wales U20 international and the brother of Wales and Scarlets flanker Aaron, is the fourth recruit the Blues have announced for next season following full-back Matthew Morgan, prop Rhys Gill and back rower Nick Williams.

Shingler said: “I’m looking forward to linking up with Cardiff Blues from next season.

“Danny Wilson is assembling a great squad, recruiting strongly and I hope I can play my part and help the region achieve its long-term aspirations.

“I’m currently side-lined with a knee injury, but I’m looking forward to getting back and contributing towards the end of the season as the Scarlets push for a big finish in the league.”

Swansea-born Shingler back is currently in his second spells at Scarlets, where he has amassed 322 points in 63 matches.

Wilson said: “Steve is someone I have worked with in the past and I know what a quality player he is.

“His goal kicking and kicking in general play is very strong and he has a lot of experience from operating at fly half and centre in both the Guinness PRO12 and English Premiership.

“Steve is an excellent professional and a very good addition to the squad we are building here at Cardiff Blues.”
