We Have A Better Team Than England – Aaron Ramsey

Wales and Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey spoke to the media at the team’s base in Dinard on Tuesday, 48 hours before Wales play England.

How huge is this match?

It is a massive game for me personally. Right up there with some of the biggest games I’ve played in. I’m really excited to be involved. We’re in a good position. We hope that can continue.

What did you make of Jack Wilshere’s comments that England have the better team?

He’s entitled to his opinion. I believe we have the best team. We’ve been through a lot over the years, we’ve been together through thick and thin. We’re seeing the rewards of that. We fight for each other, we work our socks off for each other. Everyone saw that in the qualification campaign, and in first game of the Euros. We believe in ourselves and we have grown as a team.

Are you worried about the risk of trouble between the sets of fans?

All I can say is the Welsh fans were absolutely brilliant in Bordeaux. A load made the trip down. The police praised them for their great support and how well behaved they were. Hopefully, it will be more of the same.

Is there an extra edge to this match because it’s a local derby?

We have to concentrate on our own game. We know what we’re all about and what we’re doing. Maybe it does give us a little bit of extra motivation, but I don’t think you need that much going into a game like this. It is the one everyone was excited for when the draw was made.

Wales have not beaten England since 1984. Is that a factor?

It’s about time we did beat them. But we are top of the group, they got a draw, so all the pressure is on them. We are having fun.

We have been through so much together, the quality is there, we have created history together and, hopefully, that can continue. We can keep growing and doing well.

Is there more to come from you, personally?

You always want to better yourself as a player. This is one of the biggest stages as a player. I want to help my teammates. I think there is a lot more to come.

We’ve got no pressure. Everyone is expecting them to win, but, hopefully, that will play to our advantage.
