Former Swansea City and Hull City coach Tony Pennock has been appointed as Aberystwyth Town manager after helping steer the club to safety last season.

Pennock joined the Park Avenue outfit in April and assisted interim manager Wayne Jones in turning around the club’s form to ensure survival.

Jones, who was given full first-team responsibilities, returns to his original role as assistant manager whilst previous manager Matthew Bishop have left the club after being relieved of his duties mid-season, a club statement confirmed.

Pennock’s appointment is the club’s first major announcement since Donald Kane was installed as the club’s new chairman last week.

Kane replaces Tony Bates who stands down as chairman after seven years in the role and assumes a place on the club’s board of directors.

“After a season of transition it was important to us to have some continuity, to ensure that the spirit the side showed in late March and April is carried through to next season,” Kane said.

“Tony’s vast experience within the game, and his relationship with Wayne and the Players, made him the standout candidate and we are delighted to confirm him in the role of First Team Manager.”

Pennock has previously managed Port Talbot Town in the Welsh Premier League before coaching at Swansea City and Hull.

Pennock then departed Hull City after their new manager Marco Silva brought in his own backroom staff.
