Price after her quarter-final victory in India which guaranteed bronze medal.

Lauren Walks Away With Brilliant Bronze From Worlds In India

Lauren Price came so close to reaching the middleweight final at the AIBA World Boxing Championships in India but will return to Wales with a bronze medal.

The Newport figure lost her semi-final bout in New Delhi to the No 1 seed and vastly-experienced Dutchwoman Nouchka Mireille Fontijn.

But it went to a split decision with Price only being edged out 3-2 by the judges against the reigning European champion and a two-tine medallist at the worlds.

The 24-year-old had guaranteed a bronze from the worlds after her victory on Tuesday over Poland’s Elzbieta Wojcik in the quarter-final.

And it caps medal laden year for The Welsh fighter.

Price after winning gold on the Gold Coast

Price made history by winning gold at the Commonwealth Games in Australia in April and followed that up with bronze in the European Championships this summer.

The bronze was the sole medal won by GB’s seven strong team for the championships at the Indira Gandhi Sports Complex.
