Cardiff Boss Warnock Ready To Wheel And Deal In January

Neil Warnock is ready to revamp Cardiff City’s squad in the transfer window even if he has to cash-in on top players.

The Bluebirds boss signed four players who were free agents soon after taking over from Paul Trollope.

But with City still at the wrong end of the table, Warnock knows he will have to wheel and deal come January.

The 67-year-old said: “It’s not the international break I’m looking forward to, it’s January if I’m honest.

“I’ve learned a lot in the last few weeks and we have to change certain things – and probably one or two players as well.

“We haven’t got an awful lot of natural goalscorers so we have to work harder for the goals, so we have to try and solve those problems in January because I don’t think we can solve them before.

“We have got to be out and about in these next few weeks, looking at international games, and all the staff will be looking at players at different levels in the next couple of weeks.”

Warnock, who takes City to Championship favourites Newcastle on Saturday, has already held talks with chairman Mehmet Dalman about players.

He added: “I’ve suggested what I’d like to do and the type of player I’d like to bring into the club.

“And to do that I’ve said how I would offset certain players to cover that.

“It’s alright saying let him go, let him go, but you still have to have people that want them; we may have to probably let go someone we may not want to, if it means getting the right player in.

“It’s a difficult time but I do feel we have to improve the squad if I’m honest, and you have to make difficult decisions sometimes.

“It might be the only player you have an offer for or can sell is someone you might want to keep – but you may feel if you can let one player go, you might be able to bring in one or two in where you feel better.

“It’s up to me to try and generate the income to get the players in I want to improve the squad as soon as possible.

“January is a difficult time to buy but needs must at times. It will probably be a little more difficult for us, but that helps with the challenge of making the club better longer term.

“It’s a difficult time and you’re always glad when it closes but I think in our situation, I think we’ll need a full month to sort things out because the games come thick and fast as well.”
