Celtic Dragons will look to their experienced players to play leading roles in Friday’s Vitality Superleague Netball match against Severn Stars away (7.30pm).

Captain Suzy Drane and her players travel to University of Worcester intent on earning their first victory of the 2017 season.

Dragons have a talented young team who were edged out by Team Bath in their opening fixture and then suffered a disappointing second defeat against Scottish team Sirens.

“We deviated away from our identity as a team against Sirens and this week is about us getting back on track,” said head coach Trish Wilcox. “We are working hard towards putting out a performance that we as a group and our amazing green army fans can be proud of.”

Centre court player Kyra Jones is one of the most experienced Celtic Dragons players, stamping her authority in mid court since returning from a stint with Team Bath.

Kyra was brought up in Perth, Western Australia and managed to win an award in 2006, naming her as the best player in the West Australian Netball League during her time playing for the Perth Orioles.

It was in 2009 that Kyra, then named Neal, came to play Superleague netball and met Welshman Scott Jones.

They married and Kyra settled in Wales.

It was only a short time before she made her international debut for Wales and her first cap came against Northern Ireland in 2012 at Netball Europe.

Now Kyra is a centre court linchpin for Dragons in their quest to earn that crucial opening Superleague win.

Coach Wilcox says the team are looking forward to giving a performance against Severn Stars both they and their Green Army fans can be proud of.

Severn Stars have also lost their first two matches of the season, against Surrey Storm and Loughborough Lightning.

“The team came into training with a positive determined mindset and trained with high intensity this week,” says Wilcox.

“As a group, we are determined to put out a performance that we know we are capable of delivering to be successful.”

The Dragons must wait until April to play at home when Loughborough Lightning will be the visitors to Cardiff on Monday, April 3 (7.45pm).
