Conwy Borough are going for gold. They won the FAW Trophy, beating Rhos Aelwyd 4-1, and are now intent on being crowned champions.
The priority for Conwy this season is to win the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance title and earn promotion.
They stand top on goal difference with six Alliance fixtures left.
Rivals Llangefni Town won 2-1 against Llandyrnog United thanks to a last minute goal and joined Conwy on 49 points.
Manager Gareth Thomas and his Conwy team now have six Alliance matches left this season in their quest for a return to Huws Gray Alliance football.
“There have been a lot of changes at the club over the last 12 months with a new team coming in along with a new chairman,” said Thomas.
“We were given the remit at the start of the season of gaining promotion back to the Cymru Alliance within two seasons. We aim to get back up at the first attempt.”
Three second half goals 15 minutes turned the FAW Trophy final Conwy’s way and left Rhos Aelwyd down and out.
Conwy won the final 4-1 at Airbus Broughton UK’s stadium, but had to come from behind to secure this trophy for the first time in 36 years.
The FAW Trophy was called the Welsh Intermediate Cup in 1982 and Conwy United, as they were known then, defeated Blaenau Ffestiniog 1-0 in the 1982 final.
The first 45 minutes were hard fought and Rhos opened the scoring on 33 minutes when James Haynes went down the right, cut inside and fired past goalkeeper Ben Heald.
Conwy equalised before half-time when midfield player Leigh Craven played a one-two before slotting past goalkeeper Steffan Parry.
Borough went ahead when Brendan Hogan’s cross was misjudged by Parry and went in, while Dean Seager set up Corrig McGonigle to score and make it 3-1.
Rhos looked to regroup and almost scored a second of their own, but substitute Adam Griffiths fired wide from a good chance.
Two minutes later Tommy Creamer weaved past two Rhos defenders to complete the scoreline.
That proved to be the end of the scoring, as the Tangerines lifted the Trophy.
