Danny Graham Says He’ll Be Happy To Add To Sliding Swans’ Problems

Former Swansea City striker Danny Graham has vowed there will be no sentiment when he aims to lift Blackburn Rovers into the Championship play-off places on Tuesday night.

Graham – who spent two seasons at the Swans and scored 21 goals before leaving in 2013 – is part of an in-form Rovers team heading for the Liberty Stadium.

Back-to-back victories over Bolton and Leeds have put them seventh in the table and a third victory is likely to push them into the top six.

The Swans, by contrast, have only won once in seven matches and Graham says: “There’s still a few familiar faces at Swansea, but come 7.45pm that all changes. I’m a Blackburn Rovers player and I want to do well for this football club.

“I had a good time at Swansea in the Premier League and thoroughly enjoyed my time in south Wales and I still look out for their results.

“But if I go there, score, we get three points and go away happy then so be it. When I went there with Hull I scored, so hopefully that’s the case again.

“We want to keep progressing as a club and it’s another big game for us.”

Graham was often maligned by some Swans supporters during his time at the club, but the 33-year-old is still scoring and his 41 goals in 118 appearances at Rovers is proof of his enduring value.

He told the Lancashire Telegraph: “Everyone goes on about me being 33, but it doesn’t matter how old you are as long as you keep yourself fit and right.

“I feel as though I’m fitter now than I ever have been at this football club so I think three games in a week is fine for me. If other people want to talk about it then that’s fine.”

Swans manager Graham Potter is expected to make changes in an attempt to stop their slide down the Championship table.

Potter’s side – among the early season pace-setters – have slipped to 15th and Kyle Naughton, Matt Grimes, Tom Carroll could all return after Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Aston Villa.

But Potter insists: “Strangely, we have played better in the last few games than we did when we were picking up more points earlier in the season.

“But we just have to try to be consistent with our performances.

“We have been competitive in every game we have played, but we are just coming out on the wrong side of things at the moment.

“We have to keep working hard and keep focusing on our performances. If we do that, the results will follow.

“We are certainly not the finished article. We are one of the youngest teams in the division and we are still a work in progress, but I do feel we are moving in the right direction.”

Dutch winger Luciano Narsingh is ruled out by a hamstring injury suffered during the international break. Wilfried Bony (knee) and Jefferson Montero (thigh) remain a few weeks away from fitness despite returning to training.

Swansea and Blackburn last met in the FA Cup fourth round in January 2015 – Rovers won 3-1 at Ewood Park.

The last league meeting between Swansea and Blackburn was in April 2012 – the Swans won 3-0 at the Liberty Stadium in the Premier League.

Swansea haven’t lost three consecutive league matches outside of the top-flight since August 2009, a run of four in a row.

But Blackburn manager Tony Mowbray has lost all three of his managerial meetings with Swansea in all competitions, all while he was Middlesbrough manager.
