David Marshall Set To Skip Reading Game and Complete £3.5m Move To Hull

David Marshall is expected to miss Cardiff City’s Championship match at home to Reading on Saturday in order to complete a £3.5m move to Hull City.

The Scotland goalkeeper has been a target for the Premier Division club all summer, but the deal appears to finally be going through a year after Cardiff turned down a £6m offer for Marshall from West Brom.

Bluebirds manager Paul Trollope admitted recently that every member of his squad has his price and it appears from the recent departure of Fabio (£2m) and now Marshall – the club’s two most bankable assets – that those prices are falling.

It is thought Marshall will be left out of the Cardiff squad for Saturday’s game so he can finalise personal terms.

Hull are currently without their regular number one goalkeeper Allan McGregor – Marshall’s international team-mate – due to a back injury.

He hurt himself in the last game of the regular Championship season against Rotherham and after surgery on the problem, he is not expected back in action until November.

As Marshall prepares to leave, Cardiff have signed Bolton keeper Ben Amos on a season-long loan deal.

The former Manchester United player, who made seven first-team appearances at Old Trafford, returns to the Championship following Bolton’s relegation last term.

Amos is Cardiff’s sixth signing of the summer under Trollope.

Marshall does have Premier League experience having appeared for Cardiff in the top flight two years ago.

Marshall has been with Cardiff since 2009 and has made 281 appearances for the club. He previously played for Norwich and has won 24 caps for his country since his debut 12 years ago.

Hull caretaker manager Mike Phelan has wanted to sign Marshall and other players all summer, but has been thwarted by the ongoing uncertainty at a club that is up for sale.

Phelan said: “The deadline will be here quickly and we’ve made no secret that we are trying to get players into the club. Business might be late but business does get done late and we are in that situation now.

“But we’ve had a long time before this and we haven’t been able to do any sort of deals. But that doesn’t mean we can’t do any deals in the next three or four days. I think things are heating up all over the place.”
