Davies loves the Motorland Aragon track having won seven times there.

Chaz Davies’ Aragon Love Affair Continues With Fastest Time

Chaz Davies blasted to the fastest time in opening practice for the Aragon round of the World Superbikes Championship.

The Powys flier loves the Spanish track having claimed seven of his 30 career wins there – and will be hoping to add more this weekend.

Davies clocked the quickest time in the opening session of 1:50.543 which was good enough to stand for the rest of the day.

The 33-year-old – whose previous wins at Motorland have come despite not starting on pole – would join an elite group of riders who have notched up eight wins or more at the same track should he triumph.

Jonathan Rea has 12 wins at Assen and Portimao; Carl Fogarty won 12 times at Assen while Tom Sykes has nine wins at Donington Park. Also, Rea has nine wins at Imola and eight at Misano.

Davies is sixth in World Superbike standings

“I’m very happy to have finished today in first position but especially for how we worked in both FP1 and FP2,” said Davies, who was sixth fastest in the second practice session.

“We started this morning with the set up with which we ended the test two weeks ago and the feeling was positive since the first laps.

“This allowed us to immediately understand which was the right direction to follow. We must continue to work on the tires because we will have different solutions available and we will have to understand which will be the best one in view of the race”.

Davies, a three-time runner-up in the championship, is sixth in the 2020 standings with 75 points – 61 points behind title pacesetter Rea for Kawasaki.
