Four Devils players – Ben Bowns, Thomas Murdy, Mark Richardson and Mathew Myers – are in Budapest with Great Britain.

Head coach Peter Russell and his GB team won their opening World Championship group match against top seeds Slovenia 3-1 and now face Kazakhstan this afternoon (3pm UK time).

Nottingham Panthers forward Perlini, who is from Ontario, scored his first goal for GB during their win against Slovenia and added an assist on Ben O’Connor’s goal.

Perlini  says scoring his first goal for Britain against Slovenia was a special moment.

The 27-year-old made his GB World Championship debut and said: “It was great to score my first goal and I was glad to play a part in a good victory.

“The most important thing was that the team won, but it was special to get on the scoresheet.

“We put in a very decent performance against one of the higher-ranking nations in the world.

“Kazakhstan will be quick and we have to be aware of that danger on Tuesday.. There is no doubt about that.

“But we can take confidence from our win against Slovenia and build from there.”

More than 7,000 spectators were at the Laszlo Papp Sportarena to watch host national Hungary win 3-2 against Italy.

The Italians looked the better team for two periods, but Hungary hit back and Balazs Sebok netted their third period winner.

Hungary had lost 3-0 against Kazakhstan in their opening match and Sebok said: “We didn’t have the best start and we didn’t score for four periods.

“That’s hard for confidence, but after the first goal momentum just changed.

“It’s amazing to play home and we want to give something back to the fans. Three more games and we want to get the most out of them.”
