It’s all change at the top of the Football Association of Wales with Kieran O’Connor succeeding David Griffiths as president.

Griffiths, who became president in 2015, has been made a life vice-president of the association, while Steve Williams (north) and Mike Jones (south) were elected as vice-presidents at the meeting of the full FAW council in Deganwy.

An election will follow in the north and south regions to fill the vacant council positions created by the elevation of Williams and Jones.

O’Connor has been involved in football for almost 50 years and is a former Class A Referee. He joined the Welsh Football League management committee in 1985, where he currently holds the positions of treasurer and assistant secretary.

For the past three years he has sat on the UEFA club licensing committee, which monitors the implementation and achievement of the objectives of the UEFA club licensing system throughout Europe.

He also stood for election to the UEFA executive committee at UEFA congress meeting in Helsinki last year.

One of 12 candidates who eventually stood for eight positions, he narrowly missed out. A qualified chartered secretary, who works with a number of public companies across Wales, O’Connor also has specialist training in corporate law, finance, governance and management.

Phil Woosnam was elected to the role of honorary treasurer and former vice-president, David Alun Jones, now becomes a life councillor of the association.
