Macauley Southam-Hales Completes Move From Barry To Join League One Fleetwood

Macauley Southam-Hales has made a dream move from Barry Town to League One side Fleetwood Town.

The right-back’s move for an undisclosed fee was completed before the transfer window closed but has just been announced after international clearance was confirmed.

Southam-Hales was a was a right-sided midfield player for Cardiff City’s  under-23 team but has developed into a highly-rated defender with the Welsh Premier League side.

“Absolutely delighted to sign for Fleetwood Town. Massive club doing great things! Looking forward to the challenge ahead,” the 22-year-old tweeted.

Cod Army Head coach Joey Barton said: “Our scouts have watched Macaulay for a while now and after impressing during a trial period at the club we are delighted to bring him in.

“He’s an exciting young player who we are pleased to have with us at Fleetwood Town. He’s enjoyed a good first half of the season in Wales, and the challenge now for him to step up to League One level.

“We look forward to working with him every day and see him develop with us at the club.”

The pacey Wales international youth player spent 12 years with the Bluebirds and signed a professional contract with the club in 2014, but after being released joined Barry.

 

Fleetwood were not the only League side watching the defender but were the first to make an offer.

Barry manager Gavin Chesterfield said: “He has attracted a little bit of interest from the professional game.

“I can see why as well because of his speed and endurance, his fitness, quality and his technical ability.

“He had a great schooling at Cardiff City from the age of six and left there from the age of 20/21.”
