Goals Ace Josh Bull Joins Merthyr Town For Southern League Run-in

Merthyr Town have signed goals ace Josh Bull from Welsh League Cwmbran Celtic.

The former Aberystwyth Town forward, aged 24, joins the Martyrs for their Southern League Premier Division run in.

He is set to make his Martyrs debut against Cambridge City at Penydarren Park on Saturday (2.30pm).

Bull’s 34 goals last season for Cwmbran Celtic helped lead them to promotion from Welsh League Division Two. He has netted 17 goals this season.

Bull, a Cwmbran Celtic academy product has enjoyed his time in the Gwent County area, playing for hometown team Blaenavon Blues before moving to Abertillery Bluebirds, Monmouth Town, Goytre and then returning to the Yellow and Blue of Cwmbran Celtic.

He signed for Welsh Premier League side Aberystwyth in the summer, but returned to the Cwmbran a month later.

Merthyr manager Gavin Williams swooped for Bull hours before the Southern League deadline for registering transfers.

The Martyrs have lost Kayne McLaggon and Ryan Prosser to injuries and Williams badly needs to strengthen his squad.

McLaggon suffered a fractured cheekbone at Chippenham Town and has had an operation, while Prosser will be out for another couple of weeks with a back problem.

Bull’s departure from Cwmbran to Merthyr comes soon after Celtic appointed Lee Challenger manager following the resignation of Dean Morris, who had been in charge for 11 months.

Former Ton Pentre boss Morris stepped down because of all illness in his family.

“It has become apparent that he is not going to be able to devote sufficient time to running the first team and the club fully understands family comes first,” says a statement from Celtic.

Morris guided the club into Welsh League Division One, winning the last 10 games in 2015-16.

Challenger has been with Celtic for 15 years as a player and will be assisted by Rakesh Patel as player-coach and Rhys Williams as assistant.
