Goals Ace Rhys Returns To Llanelli For Crunch Clash

Rhys Griffiths, one of the most prolific goalscorers in Welsh Premier League history, will be back at  his former club Llanelli this evening.

Cardiff-born Griffiths is now manager of Nathaniel Car Sales Welsh League leaders Penybont, who take on Llanelli in a top of the table clash at Stebonheath (Wednesday, 7.30pm).

He made almost 250 appearances for the Reds, firing a phenomenal 240 goals.

Griffiths, who also played for Cwmbran, Haverfordwest, Carmarthen and Port Talbot, stands second on the Welsh Premier League all-time scoring list, winning the golden boot a record five times.

He was league player of the season twice and was selected for the Welsh Premier team of the season in five successive seasons.

Tonight’s Llanelli v Penybont match could be decisive in the chase to win Division One and earn promotion to the top flight.

Griffiths’ team are six points clear at the top, although the Reds have five games in hand.

There is one other Welsh League fixture this evening with Ton Pentre entertaining Caerau Ely (7.30pm).

3 Lee Hunt. 209 goals, 344 starts. Regular goalscorer for Bangor City, Rhyl, Prestatyn Town and Bala Town.

4 Chris Summers. Fired 177 goals in 243 starts. Had four spells with Cwmbran Town.

5 Michael Wilde. 164 goals, 250 games.

6 John Toner. 161 goals from 255 starts. Played for Conwy United and TNS.

7 Graham Evans. 157 goals in 290 starts. Played for Caersws. Three-times winner of the WPL Golden Boot award.
