Francesco Guidolin’s reign as Swansea City boss could be ended this week as speculation grows over his future.

The Italian saw his side slip to a second successive home defeat despite a spirited display as Liverpool came from behind to win 2-1 on Saturday.

Midfielder Leroy Fer had given the Swans the lead but Roberto Firmino levelled before James Milner’s late penalty saw the Reds snatch the three points.

Chairman Huw Jenkins and the club’s American owners are set for talks with ex-Wales ace Ryan Giggs and Le Havre boss Bob Bradley both in the frame.

But Guidolin, whose side have picked up just four points from seven games, said:
“I don’t worry for my position but for our position in the table – it is not good.

“I don’t know if there will be a meeting in the next few days.

“It’s not my problem. My problem is to work with players and make them play, if possible, like the first half today. My job is to prepare for the next game against Arsenal.”

The trip to the Emirates comes after the international break but either Giggs or ex-USA chief Bradley – both of whom have already held talks according to reports – may have been installed at the Liberty Stadium by then.

Fer gave his side a perfect start but record signing Borja Baston twice headed over the bar and Swansea were made to pay after the interval.

Guidolin added: “Against a team like Liverpool it is important to score more and we had chances to score again.”

“I’m a little disappointed but our team is a good team that this team can turn the situation,” he said.

“We have the qualities.

“We needed a result and my players fought today for 95 minutes and this is very important.

“If we play in this way, it would be impossible not to get results. There are still things we have to improve but we’re working hard for this.”
