Horan Header Sends Connah’s Quay Into Second

Barry Town 0 Connah’s Quay 1

An 11th-minute header from defender George Horan was enough to send Connah’s Quay into second place in the JD Welsh Premier League, following a tense 1-0 win against Barry Town.

The win puts the Nomads within three points of leaders The New Saints.

Andy Morrison’s team have the league’s best defensive record – having conceded just seven goals – and their defensive resilience again proved telling against a spirited Barry Town outfit.

Veteran Matty Williams returned to the Connah’s Quay line-up and it was his corner which was met by the head of Horan to dampen the host’s encouraging start.

The Nomads had the woodwork to thank for denying Barry Town an equaliser early in the second half.

Chris Hugh burst forward down left flank but saw his angled finish come back off the post with goalkeeper John Danby beaten.

The hosts continued to push forward and Luke Cooper should’ve done better when he directed a powerful header straight at Danby.

Danby then parried a late effort from substitute Louis Gerrard as Connah’s Quay’s defence held firm.
