By Hannah Blackwell

Jade Jones failed to reach the semi-finals at the World Taekwondo Championships in Baku.

Wales’ double Olympic champion was beaten by Lo Chia-ling of Chinese Taipei in the women’s -57kg competition.

Jones lost 1-0 in the first round and 2-0 in the second by Lo who went on to reach the final before losing to 17-year-old Luana Marton of Hungary.

Jones had earlier beaten Costa Rica’s Nishy Lee in the quarter-finals.

It was a disappointing tournament for 30-year-old Jones, who had high hopes of regaining a world title after winning in Manchester three years ago.

The Olympic champion of 2012 and 2016 had struck gold earlier this month at the European Clubs’ Championship in Bulgaria.

There was some success for Great Britain in Baku when Bradly Sinden was crowned the men’s -68kg taekwondo world champion for a second time.

The world number one beat South Korea’s Jin Ho-jun in the final.

A silver medallist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Sinden won 3-2 in the first round before taking the second 16-9.
